2.1.1 Ice pressure is to be applied within a load patch of height b and width w
of applicable hull area in accordance with that described in
Pt 8, Ch 2, 10.2 Hull areas of the
Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Ships, July 2022. Where
dimensions of load size are not compatible with model mesh size, ice pressure is to
be applied to the closest size of load patch dimension as required, with adjustment
of ice patch pressure so that total force on the load patch is maintained as
follows:
Where
= Adjusted design ice patch pressure to be applied
to model
= Design ice patch pressure, as defined in Ch 1, 3.1 Symbols 3.1.1
w = Width of the design load patch, as defined in Ch 1, 3.1 Symbols 3.1.1
b = Height of the design load patch, as defined in Ch 1, 3.1 Symbols 3.1.1
= Closest width of the load patch to the w made with
model mesh size, as defined in Ch 1, 3.1 Symbols 3.1.1
= Closest height of the load patch to the b made
with model mesh size, as defined in Ch 1, 3.1 Symbols 3.1.1
2.1.2
Ice pressure is to be applied on the centre of web frames/bulkhead or centred midway
between web frames horizontally for assessing stringers, and on the centre of the
web frame between stringers and close to the stringer vertically for assessing web
frames.
2.1.3 It is not necessary to combine ice pressure with other loads such as hydrostatic,
hydrodynamic, and hull girder loads.
