6.1.1 Turning gear is to be provided for all engines to facilitate operating and
maintenance regimes as required by the manufacturer.
6.1.2 The turning gear for all main propulsion engines is to be power-driven and is to be
continuously rated at a value to ensure protection to the weakest part of the
machinery. Alternative proposals may be made subject to special consideration.
6.1.4 The turning gear for all engines is to be fitted with safety interlocks
which prevent engine operation when engaged, see
Pt 9, Ch 1, 4.8 Machinery interlocks. Indication of
engaged/not engaged is to be provided at all start positions.
6.1.5 The remote control device of power-driven turning gear is to be so designed that
power is removed from the turning gear when the operating switch is released.
6.1.6 Means are to be provided to secure the turning gear when disengaged.
6.1.7 Overload protection arrangements are to be provided to prevent damage to the electric
motor and the turning gear train.
