1.1.1 In order to
maintain the class of a ship, it is a requirement that Periodical
Surveys are carried out as laid down in Vol 1, Pt 1, Ch 2, 4.5 Existing ships – Periodical Surveys of the Rules and Regulations for the
Classification of Naval Ships (hereinafter referred to as the
Rules for Naval Ships.)
1.1.2 On completion
of the initial Special Surveys of new or existing ships submitted
for classification, Certificates of First Entry of Classification
will be issued (see
Ch 23 Appendix 4 Form 1717(N)).
1.1.3 For the entry
into class of existing naval vessels, Form 2500N ‘Request for
Services’ should be completed.
1.1.4 A Certificate
of Class valid for six years from the date of initial Special and
subsequent Special Surveys, or completion of the Continuous Survey
cycle, will also be issued. To maintain validity, this Certificate
will be subject to endorsement at the Annual and Intermediate Surveys.
Attention is drawn to the following notes on this certificate:
-
In accordance with the
Rules for Naval Ships, class may be jeopardized if this certificate
is not endorsed within three months of the due date of the Annual
or Intermediate Surveys.
-
This certificate expires
on the due date of the Special Survey. Consideration can be given
at the discretion of LR to any exceptional circumstances justifying
an extension to the Special Survey completion date.
-
Prior to the endorsement
of this certificate, all overdue hull surveys should be dealt with
or postponed by agreement.
1.1.5 On completion
of the Special Survey or the continuous survey cycle, the Certificate
of Class will be endorsed by the attending Surveyor.
1.1.6 The Rules for
Naval Ships assume a six year survey cycle for a Naval ship. Where
an alternate survey cycle is required and has been agreed by the Naval
Authority, the validity of the Certificate of Class may be different
from that given in Ch 4, 1.1 General 1.1.4. For all
survey cycles endorsement at annual and intermediate surveys will
be necessary to maintain validity of the certificate.
