4.1.1 This survey
should take place in the six-month period prior to the expiry date
of the current IOPP Certificate or equivalent and should embrace the
requirements of Ch 17, 2.1 General and Ch 17, 3.1 General. This survey should correspond with
the Special Survey or planned maintenance period for the ship.
4.1.2 The Surveyor
should witness the satisfactory testing of the following:

Oily water separating
equipment, oil filtering equipment or oil processing equipment where
fitted. This should include an examination of all pumps, piping and
fittings for excessive wear or corrosion.

All equipment used for
control of discharge from machinery space bilges.

That the indicators
and recorders installed in the monitor are operable and also that
a sufficient supply of consumables are on board the ship for ready
use.

The oil content meter
(15 ppm alarm and bilge monitor). This should include an examination
to check for obvious defects, deterioration or damage and to check
the record of calibration of the meter where appropriate and ensure
that it is in accordance with the manufacturer’s operation and
instruction manual.

The Surveyor is also
to inspect the oil residue tank (sludge), if fitted, to ensure that
there is no sign of corrosion or damage which may impair its integrity.
4.1.3 Upon satisfactory
completion of the above, a new international oil pollution prevention
certificate (IOPP) or equivalent may be issued.
