4.1.1 This survey should take place in the six-month period prior to the expiry date of the current IOPP Certificate or equivalent and should embrace the requirements of Ch 17, 2.1 General and Ch 17, 3.1 General. This survey should correspond with the Special Survey or planned maintenance period for the ship.

4.1.2 The Surveyor should witness the satisfactory testing of the following:

  1. Oily water separating equipment, oil filtering equipment or oil processing equipment where fitted. This should include an examination of all pumps, piping and fittings for excessive wear or corrosion.

  3. That the indicators and recorders installed in the monitor are operable and also that a sufficient supply of consumables are on board the ship for ready use.

  4. The oil content meter (15 ppm alarm and bilge monitor). This should include an examination to check for obvious defects, deterioration or damage and to check the record of calibration of the meter where appropriate and ensure that it is in accordance with the manufacturer’s operation and instruction manual.

  5. The Surveyor is also to inspect the oil residue tank (sludge), if fitted, to ensure that there is no sign of corrosion or damage which may impair its integrity.

4.1.3 Upon satisfactory completion of the above, a new international oil pollution prevention certificate (IOPP) or equivalent may be issued.
