1 The Maritime Safety Committee, at its sixty-fifth
session (9 to 17 May 1995), noted that:
-
.1 in accordance with the Standards for fixed
sprinkler systems for high speed craft adopted by resolution MSC.44(65),
in particular, paragraphs 3.12 and 3.13 thereof,
the emergency source of power for sprinkler pumps should consist of
power from an emergency generator, or alternatively, a dedicated diesel-driven
pump may be provided, or a hydropneumatic tank may be provided for
a wet pipe sprinkler system; and
-
.2 in accordance with paragraph 12.7.3 of the International Code of Safety
for High Speed Craft (HSC Code) adopted by resolution MSC.36(63),
there is no requirement for an emergency source of power for category
A craft to be capable of supplying the power to sprinkler pumps.
2 Recognising that requirements on the emergency
source of power for sprinkler systems are essential for fire safety
of all passenger high speed craft, the Committee agreed that the requirements
contained in paragraphs 3.12 and 3.13 of
the Standards for fixed sprinkler systems for high speed craft should
be fulfilled in addition to the requirements contained in paragraph 12.7.3 of the HSC Code.
3 Member Governments are invited to apply the
requirements regarding the emergency source of power for sprinkler
systems in paragraphs 3.12 and 3.13 of
the Standards for fixed sprinkler systems for high speed craft, in
addition to the requirements of paragraph 12.7.3 of
the HSC Code.
