Section 2 Manufacturer information and product details

2.1 Manufacturer information

2.1.1 The manufacturer is to provide the following information:
  • Product details including chemistry and sizes, for which certification is required (see Ch 2, 2.2 Product details) stated in the form of a manufacturing specification.
  • The intended application of the product.
  • Estimated total annual production of finished products.
  • Details of Quality Management System (QMS), including internal control procedures relating to raw materials, manufacturing, storage of finished product, maintenance and calibration of equipment, training of personnel, etc.
  • Existing quality management system certification, e.g. ISO 9001, AS9100 and ISO 13485.
  • An outline description of the relevant manufacturing plant and equipment and related procedures, including a process flow chart. Where manufacturing (including inspection and testing) is sub-contracted, the manufacturer shall demonstrate how sub-contracted activities are controlled.
  • Material information, which includes: supplier details; procedures for accepting raw material against the purchase specification; material safety data-sheets; procedures for the reception, storage and handling of materials; procedures for the disposal of waste material.
  • Records of inspection equipment used for sampling, measuring and testing (e.g. calibration certificates).
  • Installation and maintenance records for equipment used.
  • Evidence of manufacturing controls and traceability (e.g. route cards).
  • Records of equipment used for metallographic examinations, mechanical tests and non-destructive tests.
  • Training records of manufacturing and inspection personnel.
  • Provision of suitable personal protective equipment and emergency safeguards.
  • Evidence of quality control systems (e.g. control of non-conforming items, acceptance of deviations, corrective and preventative actions).
  • An organogram showing the organisation structure indicating the lines of responsibility of the quality manager and production manager and the senior management to whom they report. This should also indicate the quality department with the number of personnel, qualifications, and responsibilities.

2.2 Product details

2.2.1 Physical attributes of wire for WAAM such as dimensions, tolerances, helix, finish, etc. are to comply with an applicable standard such as AWS A5.02 or ISO 544.

2.2.2 The manufacturer shall propose a product manufacturing specification which includes:
  • Product description
  • The intended application
  • Composition (including maximum and minimum limits where applicable)
  • Mechanical properties (including maximum and minimum limits where applicable)
  • Parameters (for example current, voltage and polarity, deposition position)
  • Shielding gas (including the amount of base gas and different individual components

2.2.3 All information and data submitted by a manufacturer will, per normal practice, be treated by LR as strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to any third party without the prior written consent of the manufacturer.
