13.1.1 New engine types or developments of existing types are to be subjected to
an agreed programme of type testing to complement the design appraisal and review of
documentation.
13.1.2 Requirements for type testing of engines are contained within the Lloyd’s
Register Type Approval System, Test Specification No. 4 – Type Testing of
Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines and Associated Ancillary Equipment. In
all cases the type test specification is to be agreed with LR.
13.1.3 Type testing specifications for other auxiliary systems are to be submitted
for approval if they are to be tested separately from the engine.
13.1.5 In addition to type testing against the requirements of Test Specification
No. 4, engines may also be submitted for approval against recognised International or
National Standards. Where this additional testing and appraisal is carried out
satisfactorily, it will be stated on the Type Approval Certificate.
13.1.6 A type test carried out for a particular type of engine at any place of manufacture will
be accepted for all engines of the same type built by the licensee or the licensor,
subject to each place of manufacture being found to meet LR requirements for conformity
of production.
