Section 5 Surveys at sea

5.1 General

5.1.1 Immediately upon receipt of a request for a survey at sea, the Owner/Naval Authority must be given an indication of the fees which are likely to be incurred. Each case should be examined on its merits and, when considered favourable, the travel, route and the port most suitable to provide a Surveyor for the voyage will be agreed.

5.1.2 Upon acceptance of the request to provide a Surveyor, the selected port should establish direct contact with the Owner/Naval Authority for up-to-date information regarding the ETA of the ship. As far as possible, the travel arrangements for the Surveyor should be made locally and the requirements for visas and inoculations should be ascertained from local embassies or consulates.

5.1.3 The technical aspects of a survey at sea do not differ from those of In-port Surveys and the Surveyors should be guided by existing information.
