Clasification Society Provisional Rules - Technical Background to the Provisional Rules for the Classification of Stern First Ice Class Ships, November 2011 - Chapter 6 Direct Calculations and Non-Standard Load Scenarios - Section 1 Stern area structural analysis

Section 1 Stern area structural analysis

1.1 Elements

1.1.1 Typically the mesh size is not to exceed the spacing of longitudinal stiffeners. However, mesh size is to be suitable for modelling the geometry, especially in way of the propulsion unit mounting.

1.1.2 Generally, modelling is not required of the propulsion unit. However, in order for the propulsion unit loads to be suitably applied, it is recommended that suitable rigid elements be adopted to represent the propulsion unit in way of the propulsion unit aperture.

1.2 Constraints

1.2.1 The model is to be fully fixed at the bulkhead identified in Ch 6, 1.2 Model extent of the Rules. Other constraints are to be applied, based upon the actual aft end arrangement and geometry, as necessary.
