Section 1 General arrangement

1.1 General

1.1.1 Consideration of the standard load scenarios above the stern requirements of the FS Rules or PC Rules will generally not result in all of the bow requirements being directly applied to the stern.

1.2 Rule references

1.2.1 When applying the requirements of the Rules for Ships, the location of any compartment should be considered with respect to bow first and stern first operation.

1.2.2 When applying the requirements of the Rules for Ships, the ship is to be considered as a conventional ship operating bow first, with the exception of ice class Rule requirements, which are to be interpreted according to the Rules.

1.2.3 The aft perpendicular for Stern First Ice Class Ships is defined as the centreline of the slewing ring of the propulsion unit for application of all international regulations.

1.2.4 When defining the extents of ice-strengthening for ice class Rule requirements, the intersection of the stern stem with the ice load waterline is to be considered the forward perpendicular for ice class Rule reference purposes.
