Section 1 Application

1.1 General

1.1.1 In general the Rules apply to linkspans as defined in Pt 1, Ch 2, 1.2 Application 1.2.1, constructed of steel or aluminium alloys.

1.1.2 Linkspans specifically designed for similar purposes, or constructed in other materials may also be considered based on the general standards of the Rules.

1.2 Exceptions

1.2.1 The Rules cover only those aspects of safety which are explicitly or implicitly embodied in them. They do not cover any other technical or operational characteristics of linkspans, such as the intact and damage stability of pontoons, vibration, towage and the potential for environmental pollution.
