Section 5 Structural strengthening and repairs

5.1 Structural strengthening and repair methods

5.1.1 The following strengthening and repair techniques can be considered for an offshore structure as a mitigation plan for structural defects:
  • Weld grinding;
  • Member replacing;
  • Underwater welding;
  • Member grouting;
  • Member or joint clamping;
  • Marine growth removal;
  • Anode replacement;
  • Scour backfill or additional scour protection.

5.1.2 Where repairs are not practical then structural online monitoring systems could be utilised to continuously monitor for changes in integrity of the structures.
