Section 4 Structural integrity management

4.1 Structural integrity management in life extension

4.1.1 A structural integrity management (SIM) system is a key driver for identifying potential structural damages and escalating repair works. An important requirement of life extension is the availability of detailed information about the platform from the installation phase through to the operational phase. A robust SIM process also ensures that large amounts of platform historical records related to platform inspections and mitigating actions are easily traceable. There have been several initiatives from regulators such as HSE (UK) to ensure the Operators follow a robust SIM process as part of life extension. Please refer to Ch 1, 8 An example of a SIM process for an example SIM process.
