9.11 Fire detection and alarm system

  9.11.1 An automatic fire detection and alarm system should be provided in all accommodation and service spaces. Accommodation spaces should be fitted with smoke detectors.

  9.11.2 Sufficient manual fire alarm stations should be installed at suitable locations throughout the unit.

  9.11.3 A fixed fire detection and fire alarm system should be installed in:

  • .1 periodically unattended machinery spaces; and

  • .2 machinery spaces where:

    • 2.1 the installation of automatic and remote control system and equipments has been approved in lieu of continuous manning of the spaces, and

    • 2.2 the main propulsion and associated machinery, including the main sources of electrical power, are provided with various degrees of automatic or remote control and are under continuous manned supervision from a control room.
