3.1 The cargo spaces of the ship in which unit
loads will be stowed should be clean, dry and free from oil and grease.
3.2 The decks, including the tank top, should
be flush all over.
3.3 The cargo spaces should preferably be of a
rectangular shape, horizontally and vertically. Cargo spaces of another
shape in forward holds or in 'tween-decks should be transformed into
a rectangular shape both athwartships and longitudinally by the use
of suitable timber (figure 1).
