1 Purpose

  1.1 This note provides guidance to Search and Rescue servicesfootnote of Contracting Governmentsfootnote in relation to requesting and receiving LRIT informationfootnote transmitted by shipsfootnote.

  1.2 Search and Rescue services (SAR services) of Contracting Governments are entitled, pursuant to the provisions of regulationfootnote V/19-1.12, to request and receive LRIT information for the search and rescue of persons in distress at sea.

  1.3 SAR services of Contracting Governments are also permitted to request and receive LRIT information transmitted by a specific ship when an uncertaintyfootnote or alertfootnote phase might need to be declared or has been declared in relation to the ship in question or those onboard.
