1 The Maritime Safety Committee, at its ninety-eighth session (7 to 16
June 2017), with a view to providing more specific guidance on requirements related
to inert gas systems on tankers, approved Unified interpretations of chapter 15
of the FSS Code (MSC.1/Circ.1582), which was prepared by the Sub-Committee
on Ship Systems and Equipment, at its fourth session (20 to 24 March 2017).
2 The Maritime Safety Committee, at its 100th session (3 to 7 December
2018), with a view to disseminating information on pending amendments to paragraph
15.2 of the FSS Code, approved a revision of the Unified interpretations of
chapter 15 of the FSS Code (MSC.1/Circ.1582), as an interim solution,
until the entry into force of the associated amendments, as prepared by the
Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment, at its fifth session (12 to 16 March
2018) and set out in the annex.
3 Member States are invited to use the annexed Unified Interpretations as
guidance when applying paragraphs 15.2.2.2.2, 15.2.2.3.2.1, 15.2.2.3.2.2,
15.2.2.3.2.6, 15.2.2.4.1, 15.2.2.4.2.1, and 15.2.2.4.5 of chapter 15 of the FSS
Code, and to bring the Unified Interpretations to the attention of all parties
concerned.
