4.1 Every wind propulsion system has a distinctive
force characteristic dependent on ship speed, wind speed and the wind
angle relative to heading. The force characteristic can be expressed
in a two dimensional matrix, holding elements for any combination
of wind speed and wind angle relative to heading for a given ship
speed Vref.
4.2 Each matrix element represents the propulsion
force in kilonewton (kN) for the respective wind speed and angle.
The wind angle is given in relative bearings (with 0° on the bow).
Table 1 gives guidance for the determination of the wind propulsion
system force matrix F(Vref)i,j
.
For the final determination of the CO2 reduction of a system
the force matrix must be approved by the verifier.
