.1 An approved fixed fire-extinguishing system
should be provided in units that are otherwise not required to have
this provision by 9.5.
.2 Provision should be made for immediate water
delivery from the fire main system at a suitable pressure, due regard
being paid to the possibility of freezing, either by:
-
.1 remote starting arrangements of one of the
main fire pumps. One of the starting positions should be on the navigating
bridge and one at the fire control station, if any; or
-
.2 permanent pressurization of the fire main system
by one of the main fire pumps.
.3 The Administration should give special consideration
to maintaining the fire integrity of the machinery spaces, the location
and centralization of the fire-extinguishing system controls, the
required shutdown arrangements (e.g. ventilation, fuel pumps, etc.)
and may require additional fire-extinguishing appliances and other
fire-fighting equipment and breathing apparatus.
