1 The Maritime Safety Committee, at its
eighty-second session (29 November to 8 December 2006), confirmed
its support for, and the continued validity of resolution A.706(17),
as amended on World-Wide Navigational Warning Service and MSC/Circ.893
on Navigational Warnings concerning operations endangering the Safety
of Navigation.
2 The Committee recognized the need to recall
the attention of Members to the significance of these documents,
in view of a recent report on a failure to comply with them, so as
to ensure that the navigational safety is not endangered by any special
operation, referred to in resolution A.706(17), as amended, Annex
1, paragraph 4.2.1.3.12, including missile firings.
3 The Committee, therefore, urged all Members
to reaffirm the need to:
-
.1 attach the greatest importance to the safety
of navigation and avoid taking any action which might adversely affect
shipping engaged in international trade; and
-
.2 strictly comply with the recommendations
contained in resolution A.706(17), as amended, on the World-Wide
Navigational Warning Service (in particular paragraphs 4.2.1.3.12
and 6.6.1.5 and 6.6.1.9 of Annex 1 (IMO/IHO World-Wide Navigational
Warning Service Guidance Document) thereto) so that operations
should not endanger the safety of navigation.
