6.3 Sailing Vessels

  6.3.1 In a sailing vessel the area of freeing ports should be at least 10% of that part of the bulwark area which extends for 2/3 of the vessel's length amidships. A freeing port should be located in the lower third of the bulwark height, as close to the deck as practicable. A freeing port should be fitted with a grid which has a spacing of not more than 50mm in any direction.

  6.3.2 Where the average height of the bulwark over its length does not exceed 150mm, freeing ports will not be required, however attention should be paid to suitable drainage arrangements.
