5.10 Manually Operated Alternatives

  5.10.1 The alternative means of obtaining information in the event of a failure in the monitoring system should be as follows:

  • .1 oil content meter or sampling system: visual observation of the surface of the water adjacent to the effluent discharge;

  • .2 flow meter: pump discharge characteristics, etc;

  • .3 ship's speed indicating device: main engine r.p.m. etc;

  • .4 processor: manual calculation and manual recording; and

  • .5 overboard discharge control: manual operation of pumps and valves.
