4.2 Alternative design and arrangements

 When alternative design or arrangements deviate from the prescriptive provisions of the Code, an engineering analysis, evaluation and approval of the design and arrangements should be carried out in accordance with SOLAS regulation II-1/55 based on the guidelines developed by the Organization.footnote
