6.3 Topside Tanks

  6.3.1 Corrosion and wastage of steel especially in the upper part of the topside tanks should be carefully watched.

  6.3.2 Though the water ballast tanks of newer bulk canters are well protected against corrosion, the upper portion is susceptible to corrosion because the protective coating will be easily deteriorated due to heat from the upper deck and the cyclic wet/dry effect of seawater.
