5.1 Damage assumptions

 The damage assumptions identified below should be applied to all oil tanks when calculating the Equivalent Oil Spill number.

  5.1.1 Side damage

Longitudinal extent - l c = L 2/3 or 14.5m whichever is less
Transverse extent - t c = B/5 or 11.5m whichever is less
Vertical extent - v c = from the baseline upwards without limit

  5.1.2 Bottom damage

Longitudinal extent - l s = 0.2L
Transverse extent - b s = B/6 or 10m whichever is less but not less than 5m
Vertical extent from the base line - v s = B/15
