1 The Maritime Safety Committee, at its 105th session (20 to 29 April 2022),
considered a proposal by the Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers, at
its seventh session, recognizing the importance of providing criteria for the
arrangement and installation of fuel cell power installations on board ships so as
to provide at least the same level of safety and reliability as new and comparable
conventional oil-fuelled main and auxiliary machinery installations, approved the
Interim guidelines for the safety of ships using fuel cell power
installations, as set out in the annex.
2 Member States are invited to bring the Interim Guidelines to the attention of
shipbuilders, manufacturers, shipowners, ship managers, masters and ship crews,
bareboat charterers and all other parties concerned.
3 Member States are invited to recount their experience gained through the use of
these Interim Guidelines to the Organization, for the Committee to keep them under
review.
