10.11 Exhaust Systems

All engine exhaust systems should be adequate to assure the correct functioning of the machinery and that safe operation of the craft is not hazarded. Exhaust systems should be so arranged as to minimize the intake of exhaust gases into manned spaces, air conditioning systems, and engine intakes. Exhaust systems should not in general discharge into lift system intakes. Exhaust discharging through the hull in the vicinity of the waterline should befitted with shut-off valves on the shell unless alternative arrangements have been made to ensure that the risk of flooding of the space is minimized.
