Section 1 Introduction

1.1 Preamble

1.1.1 Section 7.3.2 of the IMSBC Code allows for the carriage of cargo with a moisture content above the Transportable Moisture Limit (TML) on the provision that the ship is ‘specially constructed’ or ‘specially fitted’ for this condition.

1.1.2 Loading of Group A cargo is only allowed when the moisture content, as measured no more than 7 days before loading, is below the TML.

1.1.3 Group A cargoes according to the IMSBC Code, are cargoes that may liquefy during a voyage even when they are cohesive and trimmed level.

1.1.4 This guidance note summarises the requirements defined by LR for ships specially constructed to carry IMSBC Group A cargoes.
