2.1 Inapplicable machinery items

2.1.1 Typical items of machinery which are not to be examined by the Chief Engineer and remain to be dealt with by Lloyd’s Register Surveyors.
  1. Main propulsion diesel engines:
    • Crankcase doors and relief devices.
    • Engine trial.
    • First start arrangements.
    • Scavenge relief devices.
  2. Main steam turbines:
    • Complete unit.
  3. Gas turbines:
    • Complete unit.
  4. Reduction gearing:
    • Reduction/increase gearing, flexible couplings and clutches.
  5. Shafting:
    • Tailshafts.
    • Sternbushes.
  6. Propellers:
    • Complete unit.
  7. Auxiliary machinery:
    • Pumping arrangements.
    • Sea connections.
  8. Pressure plant:
    • Boilers and other pressure vessels.
    • Boiler fuel oil heaters.
    • Steam pipes.
    • Manoeuvring valves and bulkhead stop valves.
    • Starting air pipes.
  9. Electrical equipment:
    • Electrical equipment other than auxiliary motors.
  10. Control equipment:
    • Main engine controls and controls associated with Class Notations, e.g. UMS, CCS, ICC, IP and DP.
  11. Steering machinery:
    • Surveyable items other than the steering gear pump.
  12. Ships fitted with approved inert gas systems:
    • Surveyable items other than scrubber units, blowers and independent gas generators.
  13. General items:
    • Holding down bolts and chocks.
    • Machinery damage, repairs and alterations.
