1 The Maritime Safety Committee, at its sixty-sixth
session (28 May to 6 June 1996), approved the Recommendation on thermal
radiation test supplement to fire resistance tests for "A", "B" and
"F" class divisions set out in the annex, which is intended to be
used for measuring heat radiation through windows as a basis for characterizing
their ability to maintain integrity of thermal and structural boundaries
and their suitability for use in marine construction.
2 The Committee noted that the provisions of the
Recommendation would be included in the International Code for the
Application of Fire Test Procedures which is expected to be adopted
at MSC 67 as a mandatory instrument under relevant provisions of the
1974 SOLAS Convention, as amended.
3 Governments are invited to apply the Recommendation
when approving "A" and "B" class divisions containing windows, pending
the entry into force of the Code.
