1.1 The ventilation of machinery spaces should
be sufficient under normal conditions to prevent accumulation of oil
vapour.
1.2 To control and minimize the hazards from the
spread of smoke, means for controlling smoke in machinery spaces should
be provided.
1.3 Suitable arrangements should be available
to permit the release of smoke, in the event of fire, from machinery
spaces of category A. Reversible ventilation systems may be acceptable
for this purpose.
1.4 The position of fire detectors should be determined
with due regard to the ventilation characteristics of the space.
