Section 3 Certificates

3.1 Certificates

3.1.1 The approval certificate issued by LR will depend on the scope of the approval:

  • Where the applicant is a shipowner or ship Operator seeking approval for the installation of EPL/SHaPoLi equipment on board a specific ship or series of ships, a Design Appraisal Document (DAD) will generally be issued indicating that the EPL/SHaPoLi equipment is approved for installation on board the specific ship or series of ships indicated in the document. The DAD would be issued following review of the information detailed in Ch 1, 2.1 Documentation to be submitted for all EPL/SHaPoLi equipment and Ch 1, 2.3 Additional documentation to be submitted for electronically controlled EPL/SHaPoLi equipment of this Guidance Note as applicable. Mechanical EPL equipment does not generally require a DAD to be issued unless the reviewer deems it necessary due to, for example, system design modifications.
  • Where the applicant is a diesel engine or steam turbine OEM seeking a general approval for their EPL/ShaPoLi equipment, a Machinery General Appraisal Document (MGDA) will usually be issued indicating that the EPL/ShaPoLi equipment is approved. The MGDA is issued following review of the information detailed in Ch 1, 2.2 Additional documentation to be submitted for mechanical EPL equipment or Ch 1, 2.3 Additional documentation to be submitted for electronically controlled EPL/SHaPoLi equipment of this Guidance Noteas applicable.
  • Where the applicant is a diesel engine or steam turbine OEM or a third-party seeking a Type Approval for their EPL/ShaPoLi equipment, a Type Approval Certificate (TAC) will usually be issued indicating that the EPL/SHaPoLi equipment is Type Approved. The TAC will be issued following review of the information detailed in Ch 1, 2.2 Additional documentation to be submitted for mechanical EPL equipment or Ch 1, 2.3 Additional documentation to be submitted for electronically controlled EPL/SHaPoLi equipment of this Guidance Note as applicable and in accordance with LR’s Type Approval Procedure TA14.
  • Where the applicant is a third-party equipment supplier seeking a general approval for their EPL/SHaPoLi equipment, a Letter of Acceptance indicating the EPL/SHaPoLi equipment is approved. The document is issued following review of the information detailed in Ch 1, 2.2 Additional documentation to be submitted for mechanical EPL equipment or Ch 1, 2.3 Additional documentation to be submitted for electronically controlled EPL/SHaPoLi equipment of this Guidance Note as applicable.
