3.1.1 The approval certificate issued by LR will depend on the scope of the approval:
- Where the applicant is a shipowner or ship Operator seeking
approval for the installation of EPL/SHaPoLi equipment on board a specific ship
or series of ships, a Design Appraisal Document (DAD) will generally be issued
indicating that the EPL/SHaPoLi equipment is approved for installation on board
the specific ship or series of ships indicated in the document. The DAD would be
issued following review of the information detailed in Ch 1, 2.1
Documentation to be submitted for all EPL/SHaPoLi equipment and Ch 1,
2.3 Additional documentation to be submitted for electronically controlled
EPL/SHaPoLi equipment of this Guidance Note as applicable. Mechanical
EPL equipment does not generally require a DAD to be issued unless the reviewer
deems it necessary due to, for example, system design modifications.
- Where the applicant is a diesel engine or steam turbine OEM seeking
a general approval for their EPL/ShaPoLi equipment, a Machinery General
Appraisal Document (MGDA) will usually be issued indicating that the EPL/ShaPoLi
equipment is approved. The MGDA is issued following review of the information
detailed in Ch 1, 2.2 Additional documentation to be submitted for mechanical
EPL equipment or Ch 1, 2.3 Additional documentation to be submitted
for electronically controlled EPL/SHaPoLi equipment of this Guidance
Noteas applicable.
- Where the applicant is a diesel engine or steam turbine OEM or a
third-party seeking a Type Approval for their EPL/ShaPoLi equipment, a Type
Approval Certificate (TAC) will usually be issued indicating that the
EPL/SHaPoLi equipment is Type Approved. The TAC will be issued following review
of the information detailed in Ch 1, 2.2 Additional documentation to be
submitted for mechanical EPL equipment or Ch 1, 2.3 Additional
documentation to be submitted for electronically controlled EPL/SHaPoLi
equipment of this Guidance Note as applicable and in accordance with
LR’s Type Approval Procedure TA14.
- Where the applicant is a third-party equipment supplier seeking a
general approval for their EPL/SHaPoLi equipment, a Letter of Acceptance
indicating the EPL/SHaPoLi equipment is approved. The document is issued
following review of the information detailed in Ch 1, 2.2 Additional
documentation to be submitted for mechanical EPL equipment or Ch 1,
2.3 Additional documentation to be submitted for electronically controlled
EPL/SHaPoLi equipment of this Guidance Note as applicable.
