Section 6 Equivalent continuous sound level, LAeq

6.1 An alternative to compliance with the limits given in Table 8.8.3 Acceptable maximum noise levels for crew is to ensure that no seafarer without ear protection is exposed to a LAeq of more than 80 dBA. Daily exposure in spaces requiring the use of ear defenders (noise levels > 85 dBA) should not exceed 4 hours continuously or 8 hours in total.
