5.1 Overview of technical characters, B1, B2, B3, B45.1.1 NAVTEX messages include instructions to the NAVTEX receiver for processing maritime safety information in the form of the NAVTEX message identity, which consists of four technical "B" characters which make up an alphanumeric code. In order for messages to be correctly processed, they must consist of data conforming to these B characters:
