Clasification Society Guidance Information - Approval of Longitudinal Strength and Stability Calculation Programs, December 2002 - Chapter 1 Approval of Longitudinal Strength and Stability Calculation Programs, December 2002 - Section 5 In Service Verification

Section 5 In Service Verification

5.1 Longitudinal strength and stability calculation programs should be handled by qualified personnel fully familiar with the program and the user's manual. It is recommended that the operators verify the correct functioning of the program at regular intervals using the endorsed test conditions and maintain a record of the tests carried out.

5.2 The program is required to be tested for continued accuracy at each annual or periodical survey using all the endorsed test conditions supplied with the program at initial installation.

5.3 Where type approved hardware is not used, the tests are to be carried out on the first and second nominated computers.

5.4 The local Surveyor will witness the test being carried out by the ship's personnel (in preference to carrying out the test himself) and results IDENTICAL or within the specified acceptable tolerances (stated on the “Certificate of Approval”) of the endorsed test conditions should be obtained.

5.5 A copy of the user’s manual, endorsed test conditions, “Certificate of Approval” and “Installation Test Certificate” for the program should be held on board ship. Failure to provide the manual on board the vessel will invalidate the program installation test certificate. An on-line user manual (Help function) will not satisfy this requirement.
